Bankruptcy attorneys were shocked and enraged at some homophobic remarks tweeted by CNN commentator Roland Martin. As upholders and practitioners of equality and cultural tolerance, the attorneys felt the remarks were extremely offensive and hurtful to the sentiments of those in the gay and lesbian communities. So it is only natural that they would be elated at CNN deciding to suspend Roland Martin in this politically correct world. Whatever happened to people ignoring someone they disagreed with?

Roland Martin’s Controversial Tweets Cost Him His Job

Roland Martin, a well-known commentator with CNN and famed author of Speak, Brother! A Black Man’s View of America, has stirred the hornet’s nest with his two tweets on Super Bowl Sunday. His tweets immediately unleashed a wave of protests and angry outpourings all across the Web world. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, or GLAAD, also voiced their protest with an online petition that demanded Martin’s sacking. Bankruptcy attorneys led the petition, which garnered a whopping 7,500 signatures within a few days and CNN was forced to take notice.

Don’t worry Martin, there are other opportunities for you. CNN’s ratings are miserable anyhow.

Making Fun of Soccer? Strange

In a press release, CNN called the tweets by Martin “regrettable” and informed the public that the commentator would be taken off air. However, they did not specify how long would the suspension period be.Meanwhile, Roland Martin argued that he did not mean to offend the sentiments of the gay and lesbian community; his object of ridicule had only been the game of soccer. But the bankruptcy attorneys did not buy his statements.

The Ultimate Punishment

Martin has also agreed to meet the GLAAD for what he believes will be a productive dialog and will clear any air of doubt or misunderstanding. He better bring a bunch of Kleenex for those people.
